His son is desperate to thwart him and get to Charlotte and now Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) seems to be on board, as does Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers). And he may soon learn he doesn’t have anything under control with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) either. Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) thinks he has everything under control with Nikolas, Esme, and Ava Jerome (Maura West) but that is the furthest thing from the truth.

So ITV and the beeb prefer to plough money into homemade shows.General Hospital (GH) Spoilers: Nikolas And Esme Reunite View Story Tricking Victor Cassadine The only thing I can think of is that Five and Sky by the rights to all the good US shows. The last US Show I remember being on prime time on one of the main channels was The X Files on BBC in the mid 90's. I think something like Charmed would do well on ITV or BBC on a saturday evening as its something a family can sit down and watch together. ITV also showed alot of those Daneille Steel/Jackie Collins mini series. On Saturday evenings there was Knight Rider, The A Team, Baywatch, Highway To Heaven, Magnum PI.

When I was a kid the two main channels(especially ITV) showed alot of US Stuff in prime time. Or is this the UK's way of making sure that only British programmes get to the Top 10? are all massive ratings winners all over the world but because they are shown by minor channels in the UK they never rate well.

I really cant see one of the big channels taking the time to launch a programme that has been going on for 20/30 years, considering alot of soap storylines in American soaps play on pass relataionship triangles.Ĭome to think of it, why are none of the big US series not shown on the two main terrestial channels? Friends, ER, The West Wing, etc. Most American daytime soaps, bar Passions, have been running for years. However, TBATB & Another World both bombed, partly because they had been running for years in America, and it is hard to get in to a soap, that has a lot of history with the story lines.

Sunset Beach was a hit for five, but they started from the start, as it had just started in America. Though ITV did show Savaghna a coupel of years ago Friday at 9pm.Īs for Daytime soaps. At the same time taking an American Soap is very Risky, at the moment the few Soaps that make it to primetime are getting axed after about 12 episodes. People are starting to say their is too many soaps as it is. I really dont think ITV or BBC will ever show another another American Prime time soaps. The only hit soap is 7th Heaven, and that is a bit preachy for primetime ITV or BBC, though Sky one did start showing it. Their is no Dallas, Dynasty etc at the moment. To be fair, American Soaps arent doing to well in American Primetime either at the moment. If that was true.then why were the likes of Dallas so successul over here. "Working class people like Working Class soaps" But maybe we should have a bit of a balance. The aspect of seing ordinary life is good.

Ofcourse I am not saying our soaps aren't great! Far from it. People sat back down watching Corrie, Eastenders etc.and nothing much has changed since. Then after they all finished and it went into the 90's.look at the bust! People were wanting to be successful like them. When the likes of Dallas and Dynasty were on - look at the boom in our economy. Maybe if we had more soaps like the Americans, then it would maybe help people to get off their back end and do something with their life. The likes of Corrie where we see dowdy ordinary people going to work in the factory etc. Over here, we like working class soaps where it stays the same, day in day out. OK.American soaps are all about rich, glamorous people and that, which might be a bit false, but does anyone think that it maybe makes people in America want to be a affluent and succesful like these people - which might not be a bad thing.
